White gold wedding rings, what are the features and benefits?
White gold rings it remains a mystery to most people. With the word gold we spontaneously think of the yellow color of gold. Some spontaneously think of their parents' or grandparents' yellow gold rings. And others think to confuse it with silver. Just to clarify!
White gold rings, what does this consist of?
It is true that pure or 24 karat gold, looks ochre yellow. It is by alloying it that one actually obtains a metal with other properties such as color, hardness, mechanical workability, etc. In Belgium, we mainly use an 18-carat alloy. That amounts to 75 percent pure gold and 25 % additive metals. It is important to know that the addition metals affect the color. In white gold wedding rings, we can find dozens of white gold alloys. It also depends on what color you like? Gray, white-yellow, champagne colored , gray colored ? Almost all standard white gold rings contain nickel. Do not panic these contain only a small percentage regarding the nickel release on the skin. The disadvantage is that because there is much less nickel the color is quite yellowish. One solves this by rodinating the rings. ( a temporary snow-white electrolytic protective layer) Unfortunately after a while one sees the original color coming through. Another additive metal used is palladium, the color is dark gray titanium like. The main disadvantage of palladium alloy for wedding rings is that the hardness is too low which causes deep dents and scratches.
Champagne colored white gold is made mainly by manganese and zinc. This alloy is very strong and hard but you have to love this color.
It's just what you yourselves like best.
There are still numerous intermediate colors and combinations with white gold wedding rings as always never buy blind but inform yourself well!
