Wedding rings and the search for the perfect rings!
It is just which rings you desire of course, choice there is plenty. Wedding rings come in all sizes and colors but which one is the best choice for now?
Through my experience at several jewelers in Antwerp, as a goldsmith, I have found that people are not informed enough in their search for the right wedding ring. In almost all visits to a jeweler you are welcomed by a saleswoman who may know a little more than the brochure she gives you when you are still in doubt about which wedding rings to take. At an Antwerp jeweler's where I worked as a goldsmith, it was never the quality that was most important but the one who could sell something without the customer actually wanting the ring. Sometimes salesmen or saleswomen have the best interests of the jeweler, which is excellent news for the merchant but less so for the customer. Think you know like about wedding rings and the possibilities? Read on anyway!
Dare to be different!
There is a saying, "habit rules the thoughtless herd." When I read this quote myself I still try to this day to be myself but with a clear personal vision. The new generation of wedding couples now do not feel such a connection with the yellow gold wedding ring like mom and dad has one but along the other hand they usually lack the right information when buying their wedding ring!
We want silver because it is different and is a beautiful color. As a goldsmith, I hear that a lot in the first introductory meeting. When I ask: don't you mean white gold? Then they are shocked to learn that gold can also be white and when I tell them that white gold has 20 more shades of white, the choice of the white color, because it is different, is more difficult. What I do first and foremost is to inform people well what types of metal there are for wedding rings and which are suitable and even unsuitable.
Some people, instead of the typical half round yellow gold wedding ring, just want a flat slightly wider model in white without a complement. That is possible and of course there is nothing wrong with that. Still, the possibilities are a bit more extensive and with a little bit of imagination I have no problem creating a unique pair of wedding rings over and over again.
What do you look for in wedding rings?
It may sound just stupid, but the thickness of the ring is very important for a wedding ring. Of course I don't mean a thickness of 2 mm for a ring but sufficiently thick. You may ask yourself how thick then? Let's say 1.6 mm to 1.8 mm are ideal. Most rings are now made at 1 to 1.2 mm, this is to reduce the price of gold.
The best choice of material is and always will be gold. You have gold in various colors from yellow, white to green and even black!
A very good choice for wedding rings is also palladium 500. A 14 karat alloy fine resistant to dents and scratches, also a very strong material! Kwa color is palladium titanium colored, perfect for men!
The noblest but unfortunately also the most expensive is platinum, about its many advantages I will go into later. Most importantly, the color remains unchanged always snow white!
