Jeweler, the seller
In most cases, a jeweler is not the manufacturer of the jewelry that is in his window. A better name for jeweler, then, is jewelry dealer; he or she sells jewelry and or watches. It used to be different, the term "jeweler" goes back to the golden age when Holland acquired its first colonies, and wealth became a statement, of course it had to be displayed. The first jewelers were goldsmiths, these made jewelry to order for wealthy merchants and women. Rarely did they have jewelry on display, for fear of theft.https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juwelier
A window display & a smile
Jewelry is still sold but no longer with the main purpose of standing out from others ( unless like before you spend a lot of money on it), let's put it this way a change has taken place. The goldsmith (the one who makes the jewelry) is no longer the jeweler. The goldsmith usually sits at a dusty, dark workbench making fantastic jewelry, while the jewelry dealer sits in a beautiful store with an even more beautiful window display and is surrounded by a beautiful saleswoman(s). As a goldsmith myself, I have literally already experienced how well a window display and beautiful saleswoman works for selling it. I have seen enough of this when I worked for a jewelry store in Antwerp. A showy window display and a smile, that's all it takes!
Those who do research are rewarded
As with anything, those who do not buy on temporary emotion and do a little research are always rewarded. This is evident, for example, in the case of wedding rings; those who compare well can have more made by a traditional goldsmith for the same money. And who doesn't want more quality? If it were up to me, the term goldsmith would return to what it used to be in the golden age. But of course that is up to you!
Anyway I myself am always ready to translate a real emotion into a beautiful jewel, welcome!
